ESPN Winter X-Games Snowboarding 2002, Sony Playstation
To tie in with the 2002 Winter Olympics, Konami has set about, as usual, releasing several Winter Games related video games. In this particular Olympics session, the company's ESPN-orientated division has the unleashed the PlayStation 2 version of ESPN Winter X Games Snowboarding to the general public. Statistically speaking, Winter Games Snowboarding has lots to offer. There's around 30 well-designed courses to master, that feature big kickers and twisted rails for trick scoring. These courses can be tackled by any of 13 real-life professional boarders, including Peter Line, Tina Basich and Danny Kass, and a whole load of bonus features such as snowboarding films and an exceptional soundtrack. Winter Games Snowboarding is divided into several game modes - X Games Mode, Tutorial, Session mode, but most importantly multi-player mode. As great as it is participating as a single player, there's no denying challenging other friends offers a far more thrilling experience. The competition is stiff and unpredictable, giving Winter X Games the longevity it needs to be a successful title. Visually, there's not much to complain about. There's the occasional graphical glitch or folding polygon, but other than that, the game environment has been flawlessly created. So there's plenty to do, loads of tricks to perform and a near infallible multi-player mode to get stuck into. Super, darling!

Freestyle ScooterThe popular scooter craze that is sweeping the nation has finally been converted into a video game. FreeStyle Scooter on the PlayStation is the first game ever to feature a scooter. This has to be a landmark in videogame history. Move over Tony Hawk, you've got some serious competition on your hands. The plot of the game is a little weak: a giant robot has captured your friends and it is up to you...
Alpine Racer 3Just like on the slopes themselves, in the world of video games, snowboarding is the cool thing to do these days. For some reason, skiing is just not in vogue anymore, which is probably why there's a severe lack of skiing games available for the PS2. Well, Namco look set to change that, bringing us a speedy, downhill racing game that features both skiing and snowboarding. Players take to the slope...
Centre Court: Hard HitterMidas' Centre Court: Hard Hitter is the first tennis game to emerge on PlayStation 2, and we can say only this. Why have we had to wait so long? We'll have to wait a little bit longer for the likes of Actua Tennis or Virtua Tennis on the platform, so Hard Hitter will no doubt go down well with PS2-owning tennis fans, starved until now, of their fave rave. Lacking an official license of any kind, t...

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the RingAs the impending release of the second film in the epic trilogy casts the world into fits of Tolkien hysteria again, the game of the first chapter arrives on the PS2. Following the storyline of the original book, rather than just being a mer...
