Britney's Dance Beat, Sony Playstation
Britney Spears is in search of dancers for her upcoming tour and she wants you to audition. So dig out those bell-bottoms, dust off your winkle pickers, get down to the discotheque and shake your booty like never before (Oops, I got carried away again). Britney's Dance Beat is a rhythm/action title, fusing elements of popular Bemani titles (Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania etc.) with the hit songs of the pop star herself, such as 'Baby, One More Time', 'Oops...I Did It Again', 'Stronger', 'Overprotected' and 'I'm a Slave 4 U'. After selecting from a politically correct, culturally diverse group of dancers, the player is entered into a one-on-one competition with another would-be backing dancer. In the corner of the screen, although it is undoubtedly the only part of the screen you'll be looking at as the game gets tougher, is a clock with a rotating hand. Positioned around its circumference are symbols for the relevant buttons on the PS2 controller. As the hand passes the symbol, and with all your rhythmical abilities, you hit the button. Repeatedly getting it right, without missing, builds up combos and moves a needle favourably across a meter at the bottom of the screen. Finish the song with the needle in your half of the meter to win. Respectable performances earn 'backstage passes', which unlock various delights, such as videos and virtual tours of Britney's pre-concert warm-ups. Backstage passes are also essential in order to progress through the stages. This is an ideal purchase for Britney Spears fans. Based around a much-loved play mechanic, it works well and, with the addition of an optional dance mat, can also be a fun multi-player experience.
