2002 FIFA World Cup, Sony Playstation
A select group of bizarrely-coiffured men in expensive sportswear have battled long and hard to reach 2002's World Cup Finals. Thanks to the good folk at Electronic Arts, you can plug in your console and do the same, but without the mud, the blood and the tears, with 2002 FIFA World Cup for the PlayStation. This officially sanctioned game plunges you straight into the finals: you have the choice of any team you fancy, as long as it's from the 32 available. Yeah, we know 32 teams is more than the total that qualified for Japan and Korea, but you do get to choose some of your favourites (hello Scotland, hola Costa Rica) who missed out on the real thing. Gameplay options are limited to one-off friendlies or the tournament itself, but this is not a criticism of 2002 FIFA World Cup. Like it says on the wrapper, and all that... Gamers familiar with the previous FIFA titles from EA will be comforted to know that there hasn't been much of a change in the control method for this year's version. There are, however, one or two tweaks and tucks that have been implemented to bring out the best in your team. Star Players (the ones with the stars above their heads. Duh!) are the individuals who can turn a game, and almost every team has at least one or two. As long as these guys are in your starting line-up, you can take on the world with confidence. There's enough difference in the three difficulty settings to ensure longevity too. A word of warning to FIFA newcomers: start with the easiest option and you won't make yourself look foolish in front of your friends. Ah yes, your friends! 2002 FIFA World Cup can be an absolute riot in multi-player, so get the multi-tap and extra controllers warmed up. So, if you're like us, and can't wait for the real thing to start, you really should get yourself a copy of this game. If, by the time the tournament proper comes around, you're not satisfied with your team's performance, write your own story with 2002 FIFA World Cup.

AFL Live 2004These days, most sports games, even volleyball, are considered part of the video game mainstream, but there are still a few exceptions. In particular, Australian Football games rarely make it to consoles, and even fewer are released in the UK. Acclaim's AFL Live 2004, however, is one such title for PlayStation 2. On the face of it, AFL Live 2004 is simply a game of rugby with more complicated game...
Knight RiderIf ever a license has been crying out to be made into a game then surely it has to be Knight Rider. The shadowy flight into the world of a man who does not exist was the staple TV diet of many a kid throughout the eighties, each and every one of them dreaming that they could get behind the wheel of KITT. Well, it's taken a while but that chance is finally here, via the PlayStation 2 at least. In t...

Soul ReaverIt seems that Capcom's Resident Evil series has spawned a plethora of dark and sinister horror games. Unlike Silent Hill, which would put you into a depression for the rest of the day, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver doesn't have that, “I want to kill myself” quality about it. That can't be a bad thing now, can it? After a long cinematic introduction and a brief background on what the situ...
JuicedIn the fictitious and car-obsessed world of Angel City, nothing makes you more of a joke than being an inexperienced 'rookie', who neither has his own ride, nor has the modding and racing skills that should attend ownership of said vehicle. Well, that's exactly who you are, a wheel-less nobody in a world where bhp, rims, wings and 'Respect' are all that matters. Start from scratch in the latest ca...
NHL 2K3Sega Sports are the new owners of the ESPN license, and Konami's loss is their gain - NHL 2K3 is the latest in the ice hockey series, and it's all prettied up for PS2, thanks to Sega. More than just familiar names on jerseys, NHL 2K3 offers a level of player realism including body shape, individual skill and behaviour, resulting in a collection of possibly toothless Canadian man-mountains and accu...
