Circus Maximus: Chariot Wars, Sony Playstation
Circus Maximus: Chariot Wars is a fairly original concept in this day and age, considering the huge array of pastiches, conversions and sequels released each week. Admittedly, there are a million and one racing games out there but this one has certainly opted for the bizarre in the cases of the vehicles and setting. Chariot racing anyone? With a noticeable inspiration from Hollywood blockbuster Gladiator, Circus Maximus casts the player as a chariot racer in Ancient Rome. Set across 19 tracks spanning seven cinematic environments, from the sands of Alexandria to the Coliseum, the goal is to earn Dinari and advance through the ranks to become the greatest racer in town. Each chariot has both a driver and a warrior; the player has either complete control over the team or can let the A.I drive whilst taking control of the warrior. A second player can also join in for two-player co-operative play. Winning races rakes in the cash, which is required in order to progress to subsequent races. Running over helpless pedestrians or riding on one wheel also earns Dinari, which is thrown from the admiring crowd. Game modes include Arcade, Career, Training and Multi-player. Career mode sees the player begin the quest to be the best, offering various unlockable features along the way. Arcade mode allows for quick-fix, straight racing, whilst Multi-player supports two player co-operation or one-on-one races. In a genre that sometimes seems to be in danger of exhausting its possibilities, Circus Maximus has attempted to do something a little different with the racing game.

SingStarFor a number of years now, voice recognition-style software has been a singer's best friend, putting them in tune during post-production and thus helping to convince the music-buying public that the likes of Victoria Beckham can actually sing. Well, the devious minds at Sony London have had other plans and, rather than helping the world's vocalists, are now using similar technology to judge them. ...
TOCA Race Driver 2: The Ultimate Racing SimulatorBig fans of Codemasters' Toca series that we are, we were curious to say the least as to how Toca Race Driver 2 (TRD2) would make the leap from XBox to PlayStation 2. After all, the PS2's guts are a year older than those inside Microsoft machine. The pleasant surprise is that TRD2 is pretty much the same game that appeared on XBox in April 2004, but as an extra enticement to buy this one, an addit...

Picked up by Capcom Eurosoft and released under the na...
