Alpine Racer 3, Sony Playstation
Just like on the slopes themselves, in the world of video games, snowboarding is the cool thing to do these days. For some reason, skiing is just not in vogue anymore, which is probably why there's a severe lack of skiing games available for the PS2. Well, Namco look set to change that, bringing us a speedy, downhill racing game that features both skiing and snowboarding. Players take to the slopes, hurling themselves off near-vertical drops and leaning at seemingly impossible angles as they traverse the game's multitude of sharp bends. The main aim is to hurtle down the mountain as fast as possible, trying to pick the right racing line and master the bends and jumps. It's all about speed, this one - not so much of the tricky stuff to worry about. Each course is packed with trackside objects and obstacles that either help or hinder progress. Weather conditions vary from course to course, ranging from clear, bright sunshine to biting blizzards and even the occasional rush of snow from an avalanche. A total of eight different characters are available, each with their own unique mix of attributes and abilities. As players progress through the game, they can customise their character with the purchase of better, faster skis, snowboards and ski boards with the money won from each race. Five different game modes feature in all, including a season-style cup competition, Cross Racing, one-on-one challenges, slalom races and the traditional Time Attack mode. So there are plenty of challenges on offer, giving the game a fair amount of longevity and keeping players coming back for more.

NBA Live 2004Since 1995, EA's NBA Live series has been one of the biggest and best, competing with anything Midway or Acclaim offered as competition. Almost ten years down the line, the series is still going strong with the imaginatively titled NBA Live 2004. Gameplay remains largely the same between NBA Live's many incarnations - player stats, tweaked controls and improved visuals are the main changes from ye...
Donald Duck Quack AttackIt appears that developers Ubi Soft have a reasonably close relationship with Disney Interactive. With the launch of PlayStation 2, the relationship continues with the release of Donald Duck: Quack Attack. Ubi Soft has a great background in the platform genre with the release of the Rayman series. Continuing the 3D platform catalogue in a linear fashion, similar to that in Crash Bandicoot, Quack A...

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini BottomQuite possibly the strangest cartoon creation of all time (and surely the result of some artist enjoying some 'special' brownies), SpongeBob Squarepants is back for his second outing on home console with the release of this latest 3D platformer, Battle for Bikini Bottom. As the title more than suggests, that is precisely the case, as the evil Plankton is pursuing a diabolical plot to (wait for it....
Killer LoopKiller Loop is a thrilling experience for everyone that grooves on speed. It puts you in the 23rd century, racing on impossible courses throughout the solar system, equipped with complex special constructions, known to you and me as tripods. If you dare pass another racer in the middle of a loop, don't forget to use your magnets, and don't hesitate to use your guided missiles to jump ahead a few p...
