Butt-Ugly Martians: Zoom or Doom, Sony Playstation
One of three games based on the unflatteringly-labelled aliens, Zoom or Doom delivers a story-driven 3D racing adventure aimed at, according to the publishers, boys aged six and over. Don't worry girls, there are plenty more games out there for you lot - you know, ones about horses, or dolls, or washing-up. Maybe there's even a virtual ironing simulator on the horizon. As the story goes, Emperor Bog is a bit narked at the Butt Ugly Martians' antics, so decides that they must compete in and win an interstellar racing championship if they want to continue their assignment on Earth. It goes by the name of the Martian Conqueror's Cup, and on entering it, players select one of their favourite characters and then step into their OMAB (that'll be One Martian Air Bike). The event takes place across nine intergalactic landscapes, with players racing, chasing, conquering opponents, while fighting off attacks at every turn. Zoom or Doom game also includes what's known as a Taunts System. This is an interactive element to the game, which allows players to distract opponents and adversely affect their racing performance. Using this system, players can strategically taunt an opponent - which forces them to reply - thus breaking their concentration and temporarily causing their vehicle to lose speed. How very sly! With the inclusion of a two-player, split screen mode, drag racing tracks, hidden bonuses, and an Assist Mode that provides simplified controls and easier handling, Butt Ugly Martians: Zoom or Doom should appeal to young lads and fans of the cartoon. Oh, go on, you girls can play it too!
