Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking, Sony Playstation
Added to the ever-increasing list of genres in late 1999, the mountain biking sim could have, should have been awful. How could MTB possibly be replicated? Thing is, nobody considered those clever types at Codemasters. If any company could make a go of it, Codies could. And they did. And here it is, together with one of the best rally sequels ever. In No Fear, here are single race or tournament options, and some interesting choices of location to race. You are pitted against one other rider at a time in this game, which is a bit unusual, but makes for a safer passage down the slopes. Stunts can be pulled with inventive use of your digits (blister warning!), but won't add to your final score - it's just a distraction from focusing on getting to the foot of the hill faster than your opponent. If you must bash the buttons instead of getting out there and doing it for real, there's no finer place to start. Colin McRae Rally 2.0 arrived in Summer 2000 in a hail of flying gravel and genuflection from driving gamers, and rightly so.. Codemasters bettered the original Colin with features such as an arcade mode and a multi-player challenge mode. The visuals were much improved for version 2, but the gameplay, with added depth this time around, was essentially the same. Anyone who's been within sniffing distance of one of Codemasters' rally masterpieces will tell you, for an ageing console, this is as good as it gets.

Panzer FrontWhen producing video games and their content, the subject of the Second World War can be a delicate one, to say the least. Releasing such games in certain European countries is often a decision that must be taken very seriously. But there is way around this. Panzer Front confronts some of the most involving nations head-on in a game where you can fight as the United States, Russia, and even German...
F1 Grand PrixOwners of the first Game Boy will have fond memories of F1 Race. The game was the first Game Boy game compatible with the four-way multiplayer adaptor, which brought gaming with friends on the move forward in leaps and bounds. Just a glance at the screens for Sony's Formula 1 on the PSP makes you realise how far gaming has come, and a 2D LCD display seems a far cry from the genuinely 3D, gorgeous ...
FIFA Football 2004FIFA Football began back in the early 1990's, when Electronic Arts first produced the first of what was to become one of the most popular football series ever. It quickly became the company's biggest franchise, but had stiff competition from Konami's offering, International Superstar Soccer. Regardless, more than a decade on, the series is still going strong, with the release of FIFA Football 2004...

Red Dead RevolverThe good, the bad and the, er, good again seems to sum up the history of this latest western-themed adventure for PlayStation 2. First announced by Capcom what seems like centuries ago, it was subsequently dumped and taken to the gallows, whereupon it was soon rescued by keen-eyed, sharp-shooting Rockstar - Clint, eat your heart out! Final development was completed at the company's San Diego studi...
ThrasherDespite being well received by some journalists (presumably the ones who'd never actually ridden a skateboard) , Thrasher always had its work cut out for it for one reason... Tony Hawk. Put simply, Tony Hawks is the best Skateboarding game ever. After that, everything else is just an also-ran. Absolute diehards might want both games, but casual virtual skaters will make do with Tony Hawk's, or eve...
