Bionicle, Sony Playstation
Many years ago, the mention of Lego prompted images of coloured bricks that kids used to build things with. Then came motorised Lego, and then themed Lego sets. Today, things are stranger still, with Lego wars and battles taking place in TV rooms. Bringing Lego's dark side to life is Bionicle for PlayStation 2. Set in a fantasy world in which a dark shadow has been cast, six unwitting heroes have been brought together to bring down the menacing Makuta. With your Toa powers at your fingertips, elemental spells and combat are going to be your greatest allies as you traverse six hostile game worlds inspired by elements such as fire, water and ice. Once you have chosen your hero, you must explore the world of Mata Nui, defeating evil minions, overcoming hazards and solving puzzles along the way. It sounds very similar to an RPG experience, and in many respects it is. It's a great blend of adventure and combat, but it doesn't inflict myriad stat menus and confusing dialogue on its players. It's easily accessible, which is crucial to a game with a young target audience. Much of the game action takes place on foot, tinkering with Toa powers and ridding the game world of your enemies. But there are other ways to get around Mata Nui. In several sections of the game, players can snowboard down icy mountains and even surf through lava streams. They're almost like mini-games and offer a break from the norm. Bionicle is a sound adventure game that kids are going to love.

TransformersIt's now 20 years since what were inarguably the greatest toys ever first enlightened our childhoods. And not only were they the greatest toys ever, but what gaming potential? Sphinx and the Cursed MummyThere's no doubt that in many gamers' eyes, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time made a huge impact on the games industry, demonstrating unprecedented gameplay in a vast 3D world. And when such a leap occurs, it paves the way for other developers to follow. There have been more than a few Zelda clones produced already, but perhaps the most concise and playable is Staffordshire developer...
Tomb RaiderThe youngest of the versions available, the Playstation Tomb Raider is almost indistinguishable from its elder PC and Saturn siblings. Aside from the slight slow-down when things get REALLY busy, the game moves at a smooth rate with an admirable draw distance. Polygon crunching is minimal, and the whole game plays just as well as the slightly faster Saturn version....
ESPN NBA 2 Night 2002Yup, it's another Konami basketball game, and it's called ESPN NBA 2 Night 2002. It's all just a bunch of letters and numbers, really. It's on PlayStation 2 and it's a direct follow up of 2001's NBA 2 Night for the same platform. There are several reasons why NBA 2 Night is a great sports title for all video games players, and not just Americans. Firstly, it plays extremely well and has an improve...
