Crash Nitro Kart, Sony Playstation
Something of a Mario Kart clone, 1999's Crash Team Racing was one of PlayStation's final major releases, appearing just a year before PS2 was released. It does look a little dated by today's standards, so Vicarious Visions came up with the bright idea to develop a karting sequel for PlayStation 2, ingeniously named Crash Nitro Kart. Dragging the karting spin-off into the next generation, Crash Nitro Kart doesn't bring anything particularly new to the series, but the visuals have been updated, boasting cleaner textures, and some great animations and special effects. But people don't usually buy racing games to gawk at visual goodness. They want a fast-paced competition that's always good to come back to, and that's exactly what Crash Nitro Kart is all about. Featuring just about every major character from the Crash universe, including the notorious Neo Cortex, Nitro Kart pits players in 17 high-speed fantasy raceways that take place on volcanoes, futuristic cities and space stations, to name but a few. The single player game can be played in the style of an adventure, whilst arcade and time trial modes offer a classic racing experience and an incentive to better your lap times. But any racing game's strongest point is it's ability to offer frenetic multi-player action, and Nitro Kart doesn't disappoint. Where Crash Team Racing's multi-player option came across as a developer afterthought, Nitro Kart is much more extensive, incorporating exclusive battle arenas and even an arena editor for greater longevity. A typical karting extravaganza, Crash Nitro Kart is everything it was promised to be.

Mega Man X7Capcom's long running MegaMan franchise makes its debut on the PlayStation 2 with the release of this seventh instalment of the MegaMan X series. As has always been the case with the games, MegaMan X7 is very much a traditional shoot-em-up, packed full of plenty of old-school action; but the game also benefits from a range of new features, as well as boasting a rather novel use of perspective. As ...
And1 StreetballLast seen on a virtual basketball court in 2002 with the Activision-published Street Hoops, Black Ops is back on the tarmac with And1 Streetball, brought to us this time around by Ubisoft. Some of the finer points of basketball weren't relevant to Street Hoops and - surprise, surprise! - And1 Streetball is a game in very much the same vein: impenetrable lingo, intrusive music, and physically impro...
Activision AnthologyIf Nolan Bushnell were British he would almost certainly have been knighted for his services to the games industry. Founder of Atari, inventor of the 2600, designer of Pong - there's no denying that the guy has some serious commendable achievements under his belt. He even went as far as to set up a nationwide chain of pizza restaurants just so he could fill them with video arcades. We should all t...
Psyvariar: Complete EditionOld school scrolling shooters, despite being fairly scarce in the 3D-gaming age, are still very popular with some hardcore veterans. Unfortunately, not many of these games get a release outside of Japan, so when one does slip through, we're curious at least. One such game is a budget release from Empire called Psyvariar: Complete Edition for PS2. Complete with a typically weak defend-the-earth-aga...
