Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds, Sony Playstation
The TV series may have breathed its last, but Buffy and the Scooby-type gang continue to live on in video games, courtesy of Vivendi and Fox, in Chaos Bleeds for PlayStation 2. The vampires are once again attacking Buffy and her companions, and in a typical Buffy storyline, there's a dark and sinister force behind the mysterious goings on. All you have to do is stay alive, find the demon and kill him - but of course it's never that simple... Your adventure begins in the Magic Box magic shop, in which Buffy, Willow, Xander and Spike are under attack from myriad vampires and Tara and Anya are missing. It's here where you'll learn the basics of the game. Beginning as heroine Buffy, you must beat your enemies to a pulp before staking them where it hurts. It's a simply case of punch, kick, stab, then move on to the next. After that, you'll assume control of Willow, where you'll learn about magic, before moving on to Xander and Spike. The game often switches between characters, and each fighter has a slightly different fighting style. Weapons such as bows and battleaxes are lying around to make your adventure a little easier, as well as a selection of magic spells and the occasional wooden stake. Fight a bit, move on, then fight some more - that's the essence of gameplay in Chaos Bleeds. Voice-overs from some of the the cast members adds authentic whiny teenage dialogue to the mix. Visually, the game world is nothing special but it offers solid and convincing gaming locales and a few neat special effects. Chaos Bleeds really is quite close to an episode from the series with regard to style and presentation, and Buffy fans are going to love it.
