Conan, Sony Playstation
The hack 'n' slash platform adventure, a popular gaming pastime, is still prevalent in today's age of 3D gaming and flashy visuals. Maximo is one of the genre's recent favourites, but now there's a fresh venture from TDK that goes by the familiar name of Conan. Set in primeval times, players assume the role of the uncomplicated Conan. And making the best possible use of his brute strength and merciless approach towards life's obstacles, a scantily clad Conan sets out on an epic quest with only with his blade for protection. The adventure itself is a 3D, free-roaming affair, complete with numerous themed environments such as icy lakes and volcanic regions. The game also comes with a variety of graphical effects that, although not outstanding by themselves, combine to make the game as a whole look believable, if a little cartoon-like. And as you begin to explore these hostile locations, you'll be met with myriad wolves and beasts, most of which will be hungry for your blood. Your task is simply to dispose of them and move on to the next area. The more enemies you finish off, the more experience you gain, enabling you to learn stronger fighting abilities. And that's the role-playing aspect of the adventure. Additionally, various items and weapons can be discovered along the way, such as battle maces and potions for restoring health. Conan may not rank in the leagues of other big-name, A-list titles, but it's a game with a recognisable titular hero. He's no Arnie, but you should give it a go anyway.
