Cricket 2004, Sony Playstation
There's never been a great many cricket sims available in the video gaming world. Perhaps this is because the sport is not that popular with your average games player, or maybe because cricket doesn't translate very well physically as a gaming concept. Either way, cricket fans have never really been spoilt for choice virtually. Well, not wanting to let fans of any sport down, EA has come to the rescue with this latest PlayStation 2 take on the British gent's bat and ball game - simply, yet rationally, entitled Cricket 2004. As you would expect, the game is a playable and in-depth simulation of the sport, full of all the official teams, players, environments, and endorsements you'd normally associate with EA Sports titles. As such, there are more than 1000 players and over 50 teams, including all the sport's international teams and bonus squads, as well as domestic teams and competitions from England and Australia. If that's not enough for you, then there's also a player editor, which allows you to create and change players' features throughout the game. With regard to the environments, the game features 61 accurately modelled stadiums, including famous grounds from England (Lords), Calcutta, Melbourne, and Cape Town. Each stadium benefits from various pitch types and conditions, detailed real time weather effects, and night modes for Day/Night matches. For the true fanatics, Cricket 2004 gets fairly deep into the data, offering a large variety of statistical graphs, such as run rate and wagon wheel graphs, as well as stats on each player that track over the course of a tournament. On the other hand, the game also keeps the action coming, revolving around full TV-style presentation that includes the likes of action replays, third umpire, animated ducks, and TV-style overlays. As mentioned before, there aren't many similar games about, leaving Cricket 2004 without much competition. Regardless of this fact, the game is a faithful and concise representation of the sport, complete with the renowned EA Sports attention to detail.

Tenchu: Fatal ShadowsSEGA's Tenchu series, which debuted on the PlayStation with Tenchu Stealth Assassins, has many admirers. Though the stealth genre is much more expanded now than it was at the game's inception, there are still lamentably few which allow you to play as a deadly ninja, a career which has been glamourised by no small number of videogames throughout the history of the medium. The games have followed th...
Bugs Bunny and Taz: Time Busters and Wacky RacesAnyone with a fondness for cartoons simply has to be a fan of Dick Dastardly and co. To say that you can't see what all the fuss is about with Wacky Races is akin to the most ardent music fan telling you the Beatles and the Stones are overrated. Pah! Hanna Barbera's creation has been plundered for video game use before, and here it is again, teamed with another work of cartoon genius, Bugs Bunny. ...
Sphinx and the Cursed MummyThere's no doubt that in many gamers' eyes, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time made a huge impact on the games industry, demonstrating unprecedented gameplay in a vast 3D world. And when such a leap occurs, it paves the way for other developers to follow. There have been more than a few Zelda clones produced already, but perhaps the most concise and playable is Staffordshire developer...
Spyro: Year of the DragonAfter the release of the first 3D-capable platforms Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation, a whole new world of development opportunities was been created. The transition from 2D to 3D had the capability to change every genre in the industry for the better. As one of the most popular game types on 2D consoles, the platform game was one of the first to receive a breath of life (ha!) and originality. Spy...
Midnight Club 3: DUB EditionRockstar don't only make Grand Theft Auto Games, you know. The first Midnight Club street racing game put you in the shoes of a bored cabbie who gets drawn into the exciting world of a club that races highly-tuned cars across moonlit cityscapes. The rules were quite simple: win and you win your opponent's car. Of course at the beginning of the game, your taxi-cab wasn't going to win against anythi...
