Dynasty Warriors, Sony Playstation
KOEI are best known for their Dynasty Warriors games, in which you control a heroic warrior in the midst of the epic battles that shaped China's destiny in the Three Kingdoms era. And the Dynasty Warriors games have always been proud to call the PlayStation their home, with all five games to date remaining exclusive to the Sony system, not to mention the spin-off Samurai Warriors games, which concern themselves with the bloody history of feudal Japan. KOEI make their intentions clear with the release of a new Dynasty Warriors game ready for the launch of the new handheld PSP system. Titled simply, Dynasty Warriors, the game is split chiefly into two modes. In Musou mode, you must successfully turn the tide of battle to progress to yet more battles. Free mode allows you to enjoy any of the areas you have conquered so far. The game also features all-new functions that are unique to the PSP. Taking into account the Portable nature of this particular PlayStation, the Battlefield Area System allows a more strategic style of play. But DW is still all about action, and there's an all-new feature to complement the familiar hack and slash gameplay, namely the 'Second in Command' Officer system. This allows you partial control of your very own bodyguards, and you can have them perform special moves to aid you at the touch of a button. Select the ground on which you wish to do battle. Then choose one of 42 playable Warlords. All that remains now is to choose one or more bodyguards to accompany you into battle, and you may let slip the dogs of war. Just as in other DW games, this is slashing tempered by strategy. Reduce the spirit of the enemy in each sector to 0, before moving on. Make your way to their HQ and crush them. For each stage completed your are rewarded with items, experience and now bodyguards, too. In 1997 KOEI set out their stall on the first PlayStation as purveyors of the finest melee. Now they bring that expertise to the PSP.
