Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires, Sony Playstation
Japanese developer Koei, a company known for its diversity in games (Gitarooman, Pacific Theatre) is probably most famed for its territorial combat series, Dynasty Warriors. Coming on the back of four fully-fledged instalments, Koei has now brought us Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires, an epic combat game that pits players in the middle of feudal China as they struggle to create their own empire and force neighbouring opposition into submission. Taking a glimpse at the bigger picture, Ancient China is now segregated into 24 regions and it's your goal to unify all of them under a single Kingdom - namely yours. Simply start with one region and choose another to invade. Set your battle strategy and then approach the battle with your sword held high and your allies in tow. If only it were that simple... Indeed, China is a massive land, and your enemies are formidable. You'll have to get to grips with the game's in-depth - but sensible - combat system, as well as new officer abilities and Charge attacks. There's no sure-fire way to guarantee victory over your enemies, but knowing the game inside out offers a major advantage. It takes a little time and effort, but the rewards are worth it. Although Empires is a stunning game, and one that is very pleasurable to play, the game's biggest improvements have only come as a result of Koei listening to its consumer's criticisms of past games. This is perhaps the best advice a software company will ever receive. They've listened to what the public wants from Dynasty Warriors, and it shows in Empires.

Bob The Builder: Can We Fix ItLate in the year 2000, and the battle for the Christmas number one in the hit parade is hotting up. In one corner, bleached bad boy and rampant misogynist/misanthropist Eminem. In the other corner, Neil Morrissey look-a-like and all-round good guy Bob the Builder. Only the latter character has made it onto the shelves of video game stores at the time of writing, so it could be a double whammy for ...

Sky Sports Football Quiz Season 02The seemingly omnipresent Kirsty Gallacher is back, and she wants to ask you some more questions. Different questions, too. Lots of 'em. The original Sky Sports Football Quiz, released just before Xmas 2001, contained approximately 4,500 questions on all areas of the beautiful game, and the formula has been repeated here, just a matter of months later. Things move pretty quickly in the football wo...
Fur Fighters: Viggo's RevengeThe quest for originality within the industry is a tough challenge for any developer. Whether the focus is on gameplay or the story, ideas are running dry. And with the 3D generation now clearly established, software houses are looking to put new angles on the visual aspects of the game. One of the latest graphical features to appear on next generation platforms is cell rendering. It is a techniqu...
Fight Night Round 3Fight Night Round 3 signals the return of the sweaty man mountain in shiny shorts x2 and the only real competitor to take to the ring in 2006. Where have all the boxing games gone? Well effectively, they're all here in EA's third tilt at the heavyweight title, if we must use pugilist parlance. You really wouldn't need any of the other pretenders, even if there were any. Fight Night Round 3 hits th...
Hunter the Reckoning: WaywardThe burgeoning Hunter brand makes a move onto the PlayStation 2 with the release of Wayward, returning players to the sleepy town of Ashcroft, two years after the events of the original Hunter: The Reckoning. Two years that have remained peaceful, to be more specific, but obviously that's not set to last - a cult has formed underground and now events reminiscent of the past are starting to occur a...
