Heroes of the Pacific, Sony Playstation
In 1941 the Japanese attacked the American fleet at Pearl Harbor, and US participation in the Second World War was ensured. Jump in your cockpit and take to the skies in the most in depth recreation of WWII Pacific aerial conflict we've yet to see. Taking part in famous battles such as Pearl Harbor, Imo Jima and Leyte, you'll get a glimpse into the terror, smoke, bullets and bravery that filled the air as the Japanese and Americans really got serious about blowing each other to bits. You play an American pilot, and have the most realistic depiction of WWII airborne warfare yet as you fly into battle against forces of up to 150 planes. As well as being a fighter ace and taking part in daring dogfights, you get to pilot torpedo bombers, dive bombers and plain old bombers as you take part in missions over land and sea, bombing warships and other crucial targets as you avoid the anti aircraft fire ripping through the sky around you. The boffins at Codemasters have really gone to town on the aircraft models and they are incredibly detailed, with 36 planes to choose from including such famed kites as F4F Hellcat, F6F Wildcat, the SBD Dauntless, the P-40 Warhawk and the F4U Corsair. Not only can you pilot the bombers, but you can get in the back as a gunner and protect yourself and your fellow crew members from the swarms of silver Zeros as they look to take you down. You can share the experience too: online play for up to 8 players is possible and will see you besting your buddies in dramatic battles as you soar above a sparkling sea. All the exhilaration of the golden age of aerial combat, with zero risk of disfiguring burns, a flaming death, or parachuting to safety only to face torture at the hands of your cruel captors.
