007 NightFire, Nintendo GameCube
Bond is back! And not just in movie form. Not even just in breakfast cereal form, or happy meal form, or any other Bond-related endorsement that's going to be indelibly stamped on our lives for the next couple of months. No, Bond is back where it counts: In game form. Now it's not Die Another Day, but it's still Bond. In fact it's an entirely original storyline featuring England's favourite secret agent. 007 Nightfire promises to take players higher and deeper than ever before in terms of locations and gameplay. In a kind of 'encapsulating the best bits of all Bond films' type of way, players operate in the high altitudes of the Austrian Alps and a zero-gravity space station as well as underwater in the South Pacific. At the root of the evil is the criminal mastermind Rafael Drake, who is bent on ruling the world. The game itself is made up of a large variety of missions, filled with furious action, stealth, exotic locations, gorgeous women and, of course, sophisticated gadgetry. Staying true to the Bond license, there are also a number of driving-based missions, so players get the chance to experience a range of exotic cars. Each of the 10+ exotic locations around the world and beyond contain a generous offering of challenging missions and objectives. Moreover, players have the option to upgrade many of the numerous Q-lab gadgets, which we all agree is the best thing about Bond. With the elementary addition of a four-player, split-screen multiplayer mode, 007 Nightfire represents a fine addition to the 007 range of games. Have Eurocom reached the precedent set by Rare's Goldeneye? Play it and see.
