Speed Kings, Nintendo GameCube
Acclaim's Burnout games have proved themselves popular with the industry for providing a new slant on the racing genre and delivering some genuinely tense racing moments. The company is set to continue this successful approach in a brand new racer called Speed Kings, produced by UK developer Climax. Perhaps one of the most extreme biking games we've this side of 2000, Speed Kings pits players in an over-the-top racer across 12 well known street locations across the globe. Races take place in London, Hamburg and Las Vegas to mention but a few, and each and every environment is littered with destructible objects and heavy and unpredictable traffic. The circuits are indeed hazardous, but it's a crucial aspect of the game's play mechanic. By racing dangerously close to nearby vehicles, players can build a Powerband that, when full, gives players a temporary speed boost, pushing them ever closer to the finish line. Players can also execute a number of tricks such as handstands and wheelies to build the Powerband meter. There is a risk involved, and players lose stability when performing stunts and tricks - but it can push you up the ranks considerably. It's your call. There are 22 bikes based on real world models, eight modes of play, including five multi-player options, realistic crash sequences, Burnout-style, and even real-time damage. Speed Kings is undoubtedly a comprehensive game that will take quite a long time to finish, and even after that, you're free to return for a little arcade style racing. It's Burnout on two wheels, basically.

Sonic Adventure DX: Director's CutUnderstandably, Sonic Team likes making Sonic the Hedgehog games. However, less easy to understand is its insistence on trying to make the gaming world buy Sonic Adventure, a game first seen on Dreamcast back in 1999. Since superseded by the far superior Sonic Adventure 2, this remake of the original promises enhanced visuals, glitch-fixes and a greatly improved camera system which, in fairness, m...
Call of Duty 2: Big Red OneIt is, we admit, sometimes difficult to keep track of all the different World War II shooters. But Call of Duty was a pretty stand out effort, a FPS that was both arcadey and atmospheric, with a structure that eschewed giving you one player to control for the whole game in favour of a range of protagonists to play as: an American Paratrooper, a Royal Marine Commando and a Russian tank commander. I...
Killer 7The name Killer 7 first surfaced back in the early days of the GameCube when Capcom famously pledged its 'Big Five' games. The announcement was instrumental in promoting belief in the new Nintendo console throughout the industry. The GameCube's architecture differs fundamentally from that of the Xbox and PS2, and many feared that misgivings amongst third parties about the machine's power would sen...
NFL Street 2Electronic Arts have gone and surprised absolutely no-one with this sequel to last year's NFL Street. The urban stylings of American football - featuring genuine NFL stars no less - takes to the concrete game parks and erm, streets with a whole new bag o' tricks and features to exhibit. The sequel puts a whole new emphasis on outrageous tricks, allowing players to execute giant leaps from vertical...
Superman: Shadow of ApokolipsAny random day in the life of the tights-clad man of steel is more than likely to bear witness to someone trying to take over the world. And more often than not, bad boy Lex Luthor is involved in some way or another. Well, things haven't changed much since the clean-cut Clark Kent first stepped into the old phone box-cum-changing room, as Luthor is at it again, this time aided by the evil Darkseid...
Fantastic 4Created in 1961 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Fantastic Four was the comic that really made a name for Marvel Comics, before Spider-man, the Hulk or the X-Men even existed. Developed in response to DC's Justice League, it told the story of four astronauts who were exposed to enormous levels of radiation during the early part of a space voyage. You might expect such a mishap to cause the unlucky ...
